Welcome back to Leader’s Mindset for Women in Business. Today we talk about hiring and how to find the best talent for your company.

We all know that hiring the best talent in your company is crucial to the success of your business. In order for operations to run smoothly, the company needs to fill their positions with the right talent that highly performs within their functions. However, this task comes with its own set of challenges.

One of the most important things is to have a good interviewing system in place where the right questions are being asked to gauge the character and capability of the candidate. These are the top 4 questions to ask yourself:
  1. Can they do the job?
  2. Will they do the job well long term?
  3. Are they the right team fit?
  4. “Do I want to spend a lot of time around them?
These are crucial questions in ensuring that the right team member is coming on board since we all know how costly turnover is. So, bringing the right team member on board from the get go is very important in saving time, resources, and money for your business.

From my experience in hiring employees, the biggest thing I always looked out for was always personality, not skill. This is because character is something you are born with and shaped by your environment and is hard to change, whereas skills are taught more easily to others. Also, ask behavioral questions such as: “Tell me about a time when… What was the situation… What did you do… What was the result?” These are more appropriate indicators of the person’s character. Lastly, making sure that the candidate’s long term goals match the position and the company’s vision as they are also very important for the longevity of the business.
