Marketing yourself Authentically!
I know marketing is one of those things that a lot of business owners or entrepreneurs don't like to do, they want to delegate it out, they just want to work on their area of genius, which is the service or the product that they offer. I would like to challenge you that in this chapter and show you that marketing can actually be a lot of fun. When we market ourselves organically, in a nutshell, we are really nurturing relationships. So in my experience, what I found in growing my own business and working with small and big Fortune 500 corporations over many years is that marketing is all about nurturing relationships with your audience.
So building the nurture sequence so that these relationships can have the proper time to prosper is how you build your know, like and trust factor through the visibility and the exposure of what you do while you are also nurturing those relationships in a very authentic and genuine way. I believe that in today's marketing and online world, the reason why a lot of entrepreneurs resist the whole idea of marketing themselves is because we see, unfortunately, a lot of examples where marketing is done in a non authentic and genuine way.
Have you ever have received spam messages in your mailbox or inbox from random people that have skipped the relationship building phase and that you don't know, like or trust yet and as soon as they connect with you, they're actually offering you their service? So that is one of the main reasons why a lot of times when we hear about marketing and sales, we have this bad taste in our mouth. And we also all have been through it at one point or another. That’s the perfect example of marketing that feels icky. As a result, we feel sold to and no one wants to feel sold to.
At this point in time, right now we are really picking this up intuitively as a collective, and raising our defense mechanisms because marketing is done so non authentically, that we all shy away from marketing ourselves in those ways as well.
