Welcome to another blog on Leader’s Mindset for Women in Business. Today we’re going to discuss the 3 most important skills of a leader and how to apply them the right way in your company. They are:
  1. Self-Awareness
  2. Communication
  3. Observation

The first most important skill of a leader is self-awareness. Being self aware of your actions and how they affect others is very important. You need to clarify your vision as the leader in your company. In order to know which talent to attract in their companies, leaders have to be very clear of their ultimate vision. Most leaders are visionary. However, they can also take another person’s visions and make them their own if it compels them. Tony Robbins said, “Without a vision, people perish.” Knowing the why behind what they want to accomplish is more important than the how. Those reasons are the juice that propel leaders forward to accomplish the missions they set out and lead their businesses and people.
When you are a leader, you are always under a microscope when it comes to your employees. Communication is key. To keep your employees engaged and fulfilled, your team always wants to know that their contribution in their roles matter. They need to know that they are always contributing to something bigger than themselves, to a higher purpose and vision that you set out as a leader. This is where the leader’s vision comes into play. The clearer the leader’s vision is, the clearer the team will be as to how they are contributing to the company and how they are serving the customers and beyond.
As a leader, learn how to manage and control your emotions. Being in business is one of those environments where anything could go wrong at any time without any notice. Part of the job is learning how to stay calm and in control when fires happen, as they will. As a leader, you are also a re=ole model to your team. So when emergencies or fires happen, you want to make sure that you are staying in control since your team will look to you for safety and leadership.
Another important skill that a leader should have is observation. If you want to be a conscious leader, you must observe the behavior of your team members and the culture in your company in order to reflect on the strengths and opportunities of your team. This will always put you in a better position in order to identify how to properly utilize their abilities. You will be able to place the right person in the right role, based on their personality strengths and skill level. In this way, your team will become more efficient and the operations of your business will run smoothly.
